News: Children and health organisations urge Prime Minister to restrict online junk food adverts
Sustain and the Children's Food Campaign have joined 97 UK health and children’s organisations, academic experts and individual campaigners in a letter to Prime Minister Boris Johnson to encourage him to move ahead with landmark plans to remove junk food adverts from online platforms and social media.

News: Govt has failed to address climate crisis and UK risks being unable to produce enough food, says prominent think tank
The Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) has called on the Government to bring forward an industrial strategy for food and farming. A new report 'Reaping the Rewards' is clear that government intervention is needed to rebalance risk and power across the food supply chain and includes many recommendations that Sustain supports.

News: Letter to the FT on new EU proposals for stronger food supply chain regulation to avoid unfair trading practices
Sustain, along with the Tenant Farmers Association, Traidcraft and the Moore Stephens Food Advisory group, published a letter in the FT on 18 April 2018. This touched on the proposed European Directive to curb Unfair Trading Practices (UTPs) in the EU food supply chain and why we need such measures in the UK so all farmers and suppliers are better protected against UTPs.

News: Elizabeth Truss was promoted to become Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs in July
Truss is the Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk, and was previously Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Education. Prior to entering Parliament, she was Deputy Director at the think-tank Reform.

News: A Connecticut senator has introduced a bill to remove subsidies for marketing low nutrition food to children
The bill would amend the tax code to prohibit any deduction taken by companies for advertising or marketing through the use of characters, advergames, and in-school promotions of unhealthy foods to children under 14, and direct the revenue generated by eliminating such tax deductions to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program, which serves elementary school students in low-income areas.
